Friday Finds ☆ Seribu Rasa

I took my friends (husbands were busy unfortunately) who were visiting from Okinawa, Japan to Seribu Rasa, an Indonesian Restaurant, about which I have heard many great reviews from my friends. Once you step inside, you forget that you’re in the middle of the busy central district of Jakarta. Seribu means “thousand” and rasa means “taste”. The restaurant had a beautiful ambiance. It was a Tuesday night, but the restaurant was still packed. There were many Indonesian as well as foreign customers.

It is a wonderful restaurant for a date night. We saw many groups that looked like they came for business as well. It would be a nice place to take your house guests or business counterparts. I felt comfortable taking my 3-year-old even though it had a very sophisticated atmosphere.

In terms of food, I enjoyed all we ordered. I ordered satay (skewered meat), nasi goren (fried rice) for my girls to share and a dish that looked like a sampler with various dishes in a small portion on a plate with rice. Some food was spicy, but I enjoyed it very much! If you have peanut allergy, it is advised to be careful as many Indonesian dishes have peanuts and sauce made of peanuts.

Luckily we were able to get a table without a reservation even though when we went there on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. We were seated at a table which was available until 8:00 p.m. It seems that you need to make a reservation at Seribu Rasa definitely for a weekend night and it is recommended to do so on a week night.

    Hi Kaho …
Wow, it’s like you have the ability to read my mind. I was thinking about Seribu Rasa the other day just because I have been craving for some Indonesian food here. And I was thinking that I have been wanting to tell you about it since I haven’t seen any entry in your blog about Indonesian restaurant or Indonesian cuisine. This restaurant is great. I love the food and the place. So glad you finally featured one and as always you picked my favourite!! If you like Seribu Rasa, maybe you would want to try Bunga Rampai or Kembang Goela as well. And hey, do you like to eat duck? You should try the restaurant next to Seribu Rasa called Bebek Bengil (bebek is bahasa indonesia for duck, and bengil means dirty in balinese if I’m not mistaken). The original Bebek Bengil is from Ubud, Bali, and my best recommendation is you should try the one in Ubud, it gives a whole lot different experience because of the scenery. Oh dear, I miss Bali too! Hope you’ll be visiting Bali soon, you’ll go crazy there with your camera :) Have a good weekend, Kaho!!

Yay, thanks!! That’s true that this is my first Indonesian restaurant review. I did saw a sign for Bebek Bengil. I though “oh, duck!”. Bunga Rampai and Kembang Goela? I haven’t heard of the restaurants. I will look them up online. I haven’t been to Bali yet and I’m dying to go there!! I think I will go cray with my camera in Bali! :)

No, I haven’t tried TeSate or Sate Khas. They are definitely located more conveniently to us. Our friends stayed at Four Seasons Hotel and Seribu Rasa was really close by, so it worked for us. I was totally smitten by Seribu Rasa the other night though. I saw your post about TeSate and the prices at Seribu Rasa are even more reasonable. I wonder if the pricing for a restaurant inside a shopping mall like Plaza Senayan is influenced by its location. Thanks for letting me know about these restaurants!

Hi Kaho … I just made a little trip back to Jakarta the other day. So happy that I managed to go to Seribu Rasa, even though I really really had tight schedule when I was there. Because of your blog, I put dining at Seribu Rasa on top of my list :) Nice place & good food, as always. I just thought I should leave you another comment, because I wanted to thank you & your blog, for giving me such cure whenever I feel homesick. So … thanks!! Good to be home, even for a short period, but better than nothing, right? Hope to be home soon …
