Wednesday Wall2Wall ☆ Starbucks in Hakodate ☆ Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse

Starbucks Hakodate Kanemori-7

During the summer holidays in 2014, we made a trip to Hokkaido, Japan. Our first stop was in Hakodate, Hokkaido for one day before we headed to Sapporo. From Tokyo all the way to Hokkaido we took “shinkansen”, a bullet train. There is a whole another post to be written on our fun ride on different trains with JR Passes. The very first day in Hakodate was chilly even though it was already the end of June. Hot drinks at Starbucks in Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse area in Hakodate defrosted our freezing bodies. I loved how the interior of the Starbucks in Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse was decorated with a port theme. I’m finally getting to my photos I’ve taken this summer. It took me a long time to get back to the blogging routine. Thank you so much to those readers who left me sweet comments on my instagram […]

Monday Mode ☆ Le Petit Society & Safari Shirts

Le Petit Society Safari Shirts10

I have been absent from the blog world for a while. Normally it’s hard for me to blog when I am on vacation visiting our families in the U.S. and Japan not to mention dealing with a jet-lag at the beginning. Even after getting adjusted, I feel tired by the end of the day taking care of my kids. At the same time I am trying to live in the moment and enjoy my family’s company as opposed to facing my computer working on my blogging hobby so that I can keep up with my posts. It’s hard enough to find the time for myself in the first place when I’m home since I do normal chores that many women in Japan and the U.S. do at home such as laundry, grocery shopping, and dishes. I recognize how fortunate I am to be able to afford a help at home […]

Immersion in Japan ☆ My Daughter’s First Experience at Japanese Elementary School

First Day of Immersion in Japan 3

日本語訳は英文の後 My three kids have dual nationalities. They are a Japanese national from me and an American national from my husband. What is their identity or identities? It’s hard to say because they live neither in Japan nor in the United States. They have lived in the third country in the past 3 years and will do so again in the next 3 years, which I find very valuable for them. We keep both Japanese and English languages spoken at home as I speak to my kids in Japanese and my husband speaks to them in English. We try to keep the Japanese and American cultures at home as much as possible although I don’t do a very good job with the Japanese culture… Keeping double cultures requires a lot of efforts on parent’s part, in our case, my part. This summer I was able to realize one of my […]

Monday Mode ☆ Kids Japanese Yukata

Yukata3

Yukata is a summer kimono made of cotton. In Japan many Japanese people, especially women and kids, like to wear yukata to a city summer festival or fireworks events (hanabi taikai) during summer. Unlike kimono which is much more formal, much more sophisticated to wear, and more expensive, yukata is casual, easier to put on and less expensive. I love UNIQLO‘s yukata because their design is very cute and they are very reasonable. Yukata is seasonal, so you usually see them at stores during summer or I should say you only see them in the summer time. When I go back to Japan usually during the summer break, I look for them for my kids because they grow up so fast. I bought this Yukata that my daughter is wearing in the photos second hand. She loves wearing it and she calls it “Japanese princess outfit”. I need to teach […]

Rent-A-Field in Tokyo ☆ Farming Experience

Tokyo Farming

After our fabulous trip in Texas, my three kids and I stopped by in Tokyo before returning to our home in Jakarta, Indonesia and spent a week with my family. I try to make a point to visit our families at least once a year during summer because we live far away from both sides of our families being in Indonesia. This summer we stayed in Tokyo only for a week and it felt too short, but I am thankful that I was able to stay with my family with the three kids, which is a lot to ask. My dad who is fully retired, started renting a little farm recently not far from our home and takes farming classes on weekends. He took my girls to the little field he rented and they had a chance to harvest some vegetables. The girls loved it and it was a great […]

Oh Japan!

Oh Japan

Adorable sweets Canon EOS Rebel T3 This post is a collection of photos I took when I was in Japan this summer because they are the reminders of my being in Japan and what I like about Japan. I realized that I didn’t notice things in Japan as much as I notice things in Jakarta though. It’s probably because my eyes are used to seeing things in Japan. Interesting Canon PowerShot S3IS Night lights Canon PowerShot S3IS Pretty Canon PowerShot S3IS Purse baskets Canon EOS Rebel T3 Train ride Canon EOS Rebel T3 Enoden (Enoshima Dentetsu/Enoshima Line) Canon EOS Rebel T3 Enoden from inside Canon EOS Rebel T3 Karaoke Fever Canon EOS Rebel T3 So Japanese! Tokyo DisneySea Japan

Disney Sea

My sister and her husband and another sister of mine wanted to take my girls to Disneyland or DisneySea this summer. Since I have not been to Tokyo DisneySea and our girls love Ariel in Little Mermaid, I thought it would be fun to go to Tokyo DisneySea. It was a hot summer day in Tokyo, so being close to the water with the ocean breeze sounded nice, too. DisneySea is a lot of fun. The benefits I saw was that for families with very young children, Little Mermaid’s Lagoon is a great place to hang out. My 3-year-old has a low tolerance to heat, so she and I spent a lot of time at the Mermaid’s Lagoon indoor park area while my sisters, brother-in-law and my older daughter went to try some other rides. The rides at the Little Mermaid Lagoon are perfect for my 3-year-old and she also […]

Friday Finds ☆ Kouya Resutarant Bar in Shinjuku Tokyo

Kouya01

I find Shinjuku station in Tokyo a very central area where it’s easy to access for any people who live or stay in Tokyo or around Tokyo. When I’m in Tokyo, I usually meet up with my friends somewhere in Shinjuku. My girl friend from college introduced me to Kouya in Shinjuku this summer. It is only a block away from the Shinjuku station if you come out of the Southeast exit where a big GAP store is. I liked this izakaya (Japanese style restaurant bar) a lot because the interior design was really in a modern chic Japanese style and we got to have a private room. They have both private rooms and semi-private tables. It’s perfect for a date. You can see more pictures of the restaurant here. I had some umeshu (plum wine) which was really good. We order some small tapas like dishes and split which […]

Sanrio Puroland in Tokyo Japan ☆ サンリオピューロランド

sanrio puroland

I’m sorry I missed a post yesterday, Wednesday. I tried to finish and post it, but I simply did not have enough time to edit all the photos, create collage and write. The sleepiness won. Yes, I work on my blog at night after my kids are in bed. Are you ready for an over dose of Sanrio character photos? Boat Ride Parade & Show Did you get enough dosage of Hello Kitty and her friends here? I met up with my uncle, aunt and cousin at Sanrio Puroland during our stay in Tokyo. My girls are still at the age where they would rather go to Sanrio Puroland than Disneyland. Sanrio Puroland is significantly smaller than Disneyland, but it’s not much cheaper to go there than to Disneyland. I personally would rather go to Disneyland, but for my kids, Sanrio Puroland is a wonderland. A good thing […]
