Friday Finds ☆ Lucknowi Crafts ☆ Indian Kurtas & Kurtis ☆ Mumbai

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset All the photos on this post were taken with VSCO Cam on my iPod Touch.

I needed to get a white kurti for an occasion, but I did not want to spend a lot on it. I thought about going to Neemrana because they have some beautiful kurtis for women with beautiful embroideries. Some of them are reasonable and some others can be expensive depending on the material such as silk. Neemrana is great, but my friend recommended me a place called Lucknowi Crafts and told me that they are quite reasonable. Thus, I decided to try Lucknowi Crafts first. I figured if I don’t find anything I like at Lucknowi, then I could always go to Neemrana.

I did find a lovely kurti in white with a very reasonable price! If I end up wearing it only once, I would not mind it. I don’t have a photo of my new kurti at the moment, but maybe I will add it to this post later.

If you are in the market for an Indian outfit such as a kurta (for men)/kurti (for women) and you are in Bandra, I recommend Lucknowi. I’m sure there are many other places to shop. Mumbai has an endless list of shops, but it always helps to get recommendations from friends, doesn’t it? I listed the address as well as the street photos of the shop to help you find the store. I hope you find this post helpful for you!

This might be my last post for the year 2014. This year has gone by fast, but it was more productive since we were already settled in Mumbai compared to the previous year 2013, which was the year of transition for us from Jakarta, Indonesia to Mumbai, India.

My first Monday Mode post for this year 2014 was about a stripe shirt and maxi skirt posted on January 5. Monday Mode posts have been one of my favorite topics after posts about interior design. It’s not easy for me to prepare for Monday Mode posts since I take my own photos, selfies. Setting up a tripod in my room or sometimes on our balcony and take photos without any remote control or someone to press buttons means that it takes a long time to get the photo shoot done. Not to mention, it looks quite silly (or ridiculous) running back and forth between the camera and the place to stand. I still do it because I love it. I believe that it’s important to do what you love.

When the opportunity to write about something that I love about like fashion comes in, it makes me feel rewarded for my hard work. I received some tattoos from Gumtoo whose company is based in Singapore. Gumtoo makes designers tattoos which are cool looking. Even the cute tattoo designs are great not only for kids, but also for adults.

Gumtoo opens in India in 2015. If you live in India, please go to Gumtoo India!

I was just recently eyeing on metallic tattoos about which I posted recently on my blog along with my two helpers for Thanksgiving. (Temporary Tattoos and Thanksgiving are completely unrelated, but somehow the two subjects got incorporated by me.) I was really keen on getting some for myself, so I got super excited to get some metallic temporary tattoos! When I opened package, I instantly fell in love with the metallic tattoos by Gumtoo. They are absolutely gorgeous!

If I may give an unexperienced and “non-professional” fashion forecast for the year 2015, I have a feeling that those metallic temporary tattoos are going to be the ‘it’ item for the summer 2015 (the summer timing in this sense is in the northern hemisphere). Since this past summer in 2014, metallic temporary tattoos are getting so popular that apparently some stores are having a hard time keeping them in stock. (via abc news) Also Daily Mail wrote about Beyoncé being spotted with metallic temporary tattoos in September, 2014.

What’s cool about Gumtoo is that their prices are more reasonable than many other online shops that I found. Gumtoo ships world-wide (see their shipping and delivery information here). If you buy more than US$20 which is not much for metallic temporary tattoos as most of them start from US$10 per sheet, you get free shipping. I think they would make great gifts, too!! You can view Gumtoo’s metallic temporary tattoos here.

Monday Mode ☆ Global Desi Gold Dress

Global Desi Gold Dress-8

I never owned anything gold to wear before living in Mumbai. When it comes to jewelry I am a silver person and still am, but ever since we arrived in Mumbai, I have been tempted to buy gold. I have met other expats who started wearing gold after they had arrived in India. India has so much beautiful gold jewelry that it is hard not to be tempted to buy gold jewelry.

I have always loved silver jewelry. I don’t think I look good in gold. This was actually confirmed after my lovely friend Yumi did a color analysis on me (you can see the color analysis session at my place here) and I found out that I was a summer color person whose color palette has silver in it. You can see different seasonal colors on clothes on this post.

When I was looking for an Indian dress to wear for Diwali Holiday in November, I went to Global Desi by Anita Dongre, one of the most popular brands among expats in Mumbai. I was looking for something very plain and saw this cream color dress with gold prints. I fell in love with it! There was another one, a cream kurti (like tunic) with gold design on it, which I would’ve loved to get as well. I, however, went for this dress as I thought I could wear it on other occasions and in other countries. I love that it’s a westernized piece of clothes, but it still has very Indian features. It is fun to wear something that you don’t normally wear. I think that Indian designs rock gold like no other designs.

Since I have never worn gold on anything, I used to not own any good gold jewelry to go with the new gold dress. Then I met Pipa & Bella from Mumbai. Pipa & Bella jewelry is beautiful. I love the modern take on Indian design and the best of all, their jewelry is priced very reasonably. You can read the story of Pipa & Bella company here.

Anita Dongre has three different design brands: Anita Dongre, Global Desi and AND. I love AND (by the same designer), Anita Dongre. AND is more of a cutting edge modern and westernized clothes. I own a black tie-dye dress and gray maxi dress from AND both of which I love. I hope that you enjoyed this post. If you are a Mumbai resident and have not checked out any of them, I highly recommend checking out all 3 brands. They are so fun to look at!!

Happy Monday!

Friday Finds ☆ StyleCracker Borough ☆ Design Market in Mumbai India

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetAll the photography was taken on my iPod Touch 4.

I had a chance to visit StyleCracker Borough 2014 held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai. It was like a pop-up shopping mall with many local designers which was very exciting! It reminded me of the Brightspot Market in Jakarta, Indonesia which was one of my favorite events I went there. SC Borough was smaller in scale than the Brightspot (click here for their website), but still it was filled with many brands and I can see SC Borough potentially growing to a much bigger event in the future because it seems to be the place that attracts all the fashionistas and hipsters from Mumbai. StyleCracker is India’s First Personalized Styling Platform. As they are a group of leading stylists who organized and curated this market, I thought I had to go. It’s a great way to discover your favorite local brands.

Monday Mode ☆ Black Lace Dress With Back Strings

Black lace gown with string back-14

Black lace gown with string back-4

Black lace gown with string back 3

Black lace gown with string back

How I came to own this black lace dress with back strings feels like a combination of coincidence and luck. I joined instagram at the beginning of 2014 and then a couple of months later, I saw a photo of my stylish graphic designer friend, Katie, on her instagram account (it’s a personal one, so no photo, sorry!) wearing a black dress with a stunning back. I instantly loved it. I thought it was the coolest dress. I loved it so much that I went searching for it online and I came across this black dress with back strings dress which I pinned onto my Formal Dresses Pinboard (also in a collage below) on Pinterest.

Coincidentally my friend, Micky, who is a fashion designer by trade and currently a full-time stay-at-home mom in Mumbai, asked me back in March or April 2014 if I would be interested in having a dress made by her and make some donation for the work so that she can give the money to those who is in need. She sent me some sample photos of beautiful dresses which she made in Singapore before moving to Mumbai. I was very impressed. I have wanted to own a new dress, so the timing was great. I also found the concept wonderful. She is like me taking care of a little child and that is her focus now, but she also wanted to be involved with what excites her which is creating dresses.

As soon as she offered, I went to my Formal Dresses Pinterest board and looked for other inspirations. The black dress that has back strings was too short to me. I also wanted a long formal gown and if I were to make it in black, I wanted a bit more texture to it. Then I saw this dress (original source is gone now) in black made with lace (photo below) and I loved it. I also asked to have a train on the back and the shape to be an A line.

The two photos in the collage below are the core design inspirations of my black dress.

Black lace gown with string back3-001

I brought those two photos to Micky and as I explained, she started sketching a beautiful dress on her design book. She was so fast and professional. I have never seen a professional designer sketch in person. Then she measured me. Now I needed fabric to get started. In the following week, Micky and I went fabric shopping together which was another fun experience. I handed the fabric to her and she started working on the dress. When the dress was ready for the first fitting, I went to her place and I was simply in awe. It looked like just as I imagined. After the second fitting, the dress was done.

I have worked with a tailor in the past, but I have never worked with a professional designer. The big difference I saw between a tailor and Micky, a designer, was that she has a profound understanding of the relationship between body shapes, design and fabric. At the first fitting, she simply observed me wearing the unfinished dress and figured out what needed to be changed before I even pointed out. We had to make some changes which was going to be more work for her. I felt badly for her, but at the end of the fitting, she said to me that what is important is that the dress makes me feel confident. It totally does.

Fashion has always been my fascination, but I have never been involved in the fashion world. Writing fashion posts on my blog is as close as I get to what I have dreamed of doing and working with Micky was such an honor. I’m lucky to be able to call her my friend.

In the evening on the day of a party my husband and I were going, I came downstairs where my daughters were hanging out. As they are very typical girls, they loved seeing a dress and full makeup on me and sweetly complimented on my look. Their words meant so much to me.

While my oldest daughter took photos of me in a dress, my munchkin son saw it and came running to me. I loved seeing his expressions when he took a close look at me. I probably looked weird or scary to him, but how I loved his soft hug on my leg with his small arms!!!

Monday Mode ☆ 3 Styles With Zara Flower Print Shorts & Purpose Jewelry

Zara Flower Print Shorts2

It’s fall in the northern hemisphere, but it feels like at the end of summer in Mumbai. I see jackets, sweaters, hats and boots on blogs, online stores, Instagram photos, and Pinterests. I long for them, but I want to embrace the climate I live in. It’s getting into the best season in Mumbai. The monsoon seems to be officially over. From now until the end of February, the weather outside is nice and comfortable. It is sunny all the time and absolutely gorgeous.

So, here I am in my summer shorts inspired by the Indian weather. By the way, I don’t wear these shorts unless I’m going from my home to another home or venue. I would not wear shorts to go walk around in town in Mumbai because I hardly see women of my age wear them in town. I occasionally see young girls in shorts in town, though. I would feel very self-conscious if I walk around showing this much legs because I would stand out too much. It is interesting how our eyes get used to seeing certain ways of dressing.

Monday Mode ☆ H&M Sheer Maxi Skirt & Gap Denim Jacket

HM sheer maxi skirt denim jacket-2

Since I moved to India, I have only worn a pair of shorts a couple of times. I have worn dresses that are knee length or above knee lengths, but I usually wear them to a functions and not to walk around in town. Mumbai is relatively liberal and less conservative than the rest of India. Still you see most women dressing more conservatively. The way Indian women dress themselves is so beautiful with their kurtas and leggings or saris that I don’t think too much about shorts and short skirts any more.

However, I saw this maxi skirt at H&M when I was in the U.S. this past summer and I fell in love with it. Whether this can pass as a conservative piece is quite questionable, and it is probably not conservative, but I feel more comfortable with the H&M’s sheer maxi skirt than a pair of shorts. It’s cool, light, pretty and comfortable to wear. It’s perfect for the weather in Mumbai and also for traveling and on vacation. I see a lot of autumn wear on the Pinterest sphere, but India is warm all year round. It just started to get cool at the end of October. The weather is going to be gorgeous from now until February. I am so happy to be able to wear a jacket!

Monday Mode ☆ Le Petit Society Tribal Dresses

Le Petit Society Tribal Dress-6

This Le Petit Society tribal dress is my very first matching dress with my kids. It was fun to wear something that matched with my girls. My husband would not wear anything to match with me, not even something that suggest the smallest resemblance, so the only way for me to wear a matching outfit in my family is doing so with my kids.

This Le Petit Society tribal dress was perfect for our summer vacation not only because it’s fun and pretty, but also it is really light. Since it folds well and small, it is easy to pack, which is very important for me when I pack for 4 of us: myself and 3 kids. My daughters love the dress shirts so much that they have been wearing it quite often. They air dry very fast, too, which is really nice for a trip especially in Japan as my family hang clothes to dry more often than using a dryer.

Le Petit Society Tribal Dress-4

Le Petit Society Tribal Dress

These photos remind me of our fun summer holiday memories. I went to Kamakura for 3 days with my two sisters and a nephew. We took our kids to the Enoshima Aquarium in Kamakura. It was a hot summer day. The walk was not easy, but once we got to the aquarium, it was worth it. My kids loved seeing everything especially my son who was excited to see everything “sakana (fish in Japanese)” and it was cute to see him exclaim “sakana!” even during the dolphin show (ironically).

Le Petit Society Tribal Dress-8

In a cooler weather or in Mumbai, I like to add a denim jacket as an accessory. It covers a little more skin to be respectful for the local culture. It’s hot outside in Mumbai, but inside many buildings, it can be cold, so having a jacket is very handy.

Friday Finds ☆ Zanaaya Couture

Zanaaya Couture Shouger Merchant Doshi-8

Zanaaya Couture is one of those places that I, as an expat, would have not been able to find unless my friend, Camille, had taken me. Zanaaya Couture boutique is in the area called Kemp’s Corner. Kemp’s Corner is known for an upmarket neighborhood in South Mumbai and there are beautiful boutiques where many expats like going shopping and it hosts some beautiful boutiques. I love South Mumbai for its beauty with old colonial buildings and the energy and excitement of the mega city of Mumbai.

Normally I’m not a boutique shopper because I know that I cannot afford it. I have three kids and I don’t have an income of my own to justify extra spending for myself, plus I don’t have many occasions to wear fancy outfits. Therefore, the budget I have does not allow me to shop at any boutiques and boutiques in Mumbai are not exceptions. However, when I got an invitation to accompany my friend to visit Zanaaya Couture, I took it. I thought visiting Zanaaya Couture would be a cultural visit. Plus, I have always admired what Camille has worn. She’s always very stylish and well put together when I see her.

These photos below are of my friend, Camille, wearing a beautiful ear jewelry piece that is sold at Zanaaya Couture. Isn’t this gorgeous? I love her necklace and the back piece (her own) as well.

Zanaaya Couture Shouger Merchant Doshi6

This is me wearing my favorite dress at Zanaaya Couture. I love white, so I was drawn to that. I realize that I need to start wearing more colors because I live in a country with rich colors. I think this dress was the only white dress at Zanaaya Couture. I also love the design of this dress which I find very contemporary and stylish. It’s a type of dress that I can totally see myself wearing at dinner functions and parties back in the U.S. or Japan. You might not be able to see well in those photos, but the bottom of the dress has sparkles. It’s so darling!! However, the price was much more than I normally pay for my own dress that I may be able to wear a few times a year at most. I could not stop thinking about it after I went home, though. What would you do?

I fell in love with this bracelet, but I normally don’t wear gold. I wear white and I love it and I thought since it’s a white bracelet with just a sliver of gold, so I could wear it. For some reason, I decided to not buy it even though I could totally afford it. I don’t know why?!?! (Sometimes when you have a mental block that you can’t afford something, you may not think straight to make a proper judgement? I felt like that is what happened to me.) Then the price went up after a couple of weeks later. I really regret that I did not pick it up back when I was there.

Monday Mode ☆ Gap Flower Print Pants, Zara Shirt & Forever 21 Necklace

Gap flower print pants Zara shirt Forever 21 necklace_-10shirt: ZARA pants: GAP necklace: Forever 21

I have been into combining a pair of colorful pants with a white or gray shirt these days. I find it easier for me to put more colors on the bottom than on the top. I love white and gray shirts and it’s clear if you take a look at inside of my wardrobe…

Forgive me if the colors look too washed-off or strange to you. I’m still learning a lot about photography post processing and I experiment as I write and post on my blog. The wonderful world of Youtube is teaching me how to use the Lightroom functions to change the colors on my photos taken on my Canon Rebel T3i. I hope that one day I can take prettier and more professional looking photos.

As usual when I was shooting for this post on our balcony (I wish I could go outside and shoot, but with a tripod and timer and shooting fashion post photos myself, this is the best I can do), my son woke up from his nap. My helper helped him get out of the crib (I normally run to him, but I decided to keep on shooting). My son came running to me and started posing in front of the camera with and then go to the camera to look at his photo. It’s the most adorable thing. I remember I used to take photos with my middle daughter who was about the same age or slightly older than my son’s current age. We were still living in Jakarta at the time. Here and here are some examples.

When I look at the photos on my blog from the past especially the ones taken at the beginning of our time in Jakarta, they throw me right back into nostalgia. My middle child was home and I did a lot with her. They make me miss my time with her. It feels like my son is little forever sometimes, but I keep reminding myself that soon he will start school and I will miss him. I won’t be able to take photos with him like in this post once he starts his school. It won’t be for another few months, but I need to cherish every moment with him.

Being a stay-at-home mom, I don’t have a big budget for my wardrobe. The cost of the three pieces of this outfit, flower print pants from GAP, the white shirt from ZARA and the mint green necklace from Forever 21 was US$50. I was able to purchase the pants and shirt on sale. The pants and necklace were purchased in the U.S. and the shirt was in Mumbai, India. There is no place like the U.S. for shopping.

Le Petit Society Yellow Rhino Safari Shirt

LPS Yello Rhino Safari Shirt

My son got this cool rhino shirt from Le Petit Society which I love. I often put this shirt on him because both my son and I love it, but also it’s very soft and cute! Who said boy clothes are not cute? After 5 years of dressing my oldest and younger girls in pink, pink and more pink and frills (thank goodness they grew out of that phase), it was very refreshing to see other earthy colors displayed in my son’s wardrobe. Le Petit Society does a great job with boy clothes designs. By the way, if you meet the minimum order of HK$1,200 (about US$155), the standard shipping becomes free for the selected countries. Please check here for more details.

I spend a lot of time with my son especially since this past June. From my own experience, I see many advantages for kids who grow up as the youngest child in a family. My third gets a lot of attention for being the youngest. On top of that, my husband and I have become more experienced as a parent and have definitely learned from our past mistakes, thus we seem to do a better job by the third one came.

One very typical example of how parents focus more on their first child which many people can relate is the photo albums of children. I have created photo albums for my oldest daughter up to she was 3 years old. That’s actually not that good. Then came my second daughter, who only has like a half an album. Not even one complete album! Yikes.

Then, how many printed albums does my youngest have? ZERO.

Ah, too bad.

It, however, seems that I have more digital photos of my youngest as a baby on this blog and I have none of my girls. Obviously I started blogging when my girls are a little older. However, it also means that I spend more time with him than my girls these days because my girls are not around. It strikes me hard how quickly my girls are growing up. As much as I enjoy seeing their growth and independence which means more freedom for myself, I do feel sentimental. This sentiment becomes my desire to capture every moment of the time I share with my kids, especially my youngest who is still around and needs me the most.

Many Japanese mom friends of mine often says to me “you must love him so much (“more than your girls” is inferred behind the words)”. Honestly, I don’t think he’s cuter or more lovable than my girls when they were at that age. I think all toddlers are adorable in their own ways. I do admit that my son wants and needs me more at the moment than my older girls need me and I love being wanted and needed. It seems that this is reflected on the time I spend with him.

Monday Mode ☆ Neemrana Chikankari in Mumbai

Neemrana Chikankari-3

All the photos were taken with a VSCO Cam on my iPod Touch.

Here is a post for you just in time for the Monday Mode today. I went to Croma at the Link Square on Linking Road across the street from KFC and I remembered that my friend, Rachel, told me that there is a boutique that sells Indian embroidery blouses inside the same Link Square shopping center on the top floor. I decided to check it out after I could not find the inkjet I was looking for at Croma. If you happen to know where I can buy an inkjet for a Fuji Xerox printer, please let me know!

I have many friends in Mumbai who love Ahilaya. Ahilaya is a store that sells beautiful blouses with Indian embroidery of flowers. There are many pastel color blouses which are beautiful. You can see photos on Ahilaya’s Facebook page. One day Rachel was wearing a blouse from Ahilaya and looked gorgeous on her, so I asked her about it. Ahilaya is a high-class fashion in India. The least expensive blouse I saw was probably around US$80 and the price goes up to a couple of hundred dollars. I have gone to Ahilaya in Santacruz and there is a sale rack outside the front door where you can find blouses with discount prices. I feel that all the ones I was attracted to were inside the store with regular prices, though. Sadly enough, they are not in my price range.

Rachel told me there are three embroidery stores with different price ranges. Ahilaya is ranked the top, then there is another store with similar embroidery blouses on Linking Road that is slightly cheaper than Ahilaya (sorry, I can’t remember the name!) and then NEEMRANA, which is the least expensive. When I was going up the escalators inside Link Square, I was a bit skeptical of what the store of NEEMRANA is going to look like, but I was pleasantly surprised by the charming interior of the Neemrana store. I would not say Neemrana is cheap because many of the blouses are made of silk. Their prices for blouses start around US$50 and 60. They are some gorgeous blouses and dresses! They would dye the blouse in the colors you would like upon request. I wish I brought my big camera, but I was happy to take photos on my iPod Touch. The blouse I tried on felt so soft and silky.

Monday Mode ☆ Zara Navy Dress

Zara Navy Dress

This Zara dress is one of my favorite dresses that I own. It was a gift from my sisters for my birthday last year. My youngest sister picked it up at a Zara store in Tokyo. I like her style which is different from mine. When she picks an outfit for me, it usually makes me go out of my comfort zone and I get to wear something that I might not chose for myself. The length of this dress is a bit riskier than my usual liking, but I think that the dress looks better without leggings.

The black shoes are my most recent shoe purchase in Mumbai. I love shoes, but it’s hard to find what I like wherever I am. I bought this pair at Bootmaker on Liking Road in Mumbai. There are numerous shoe shops lined up side by side on Linking Road in Mumbai. It was overwhelming to find where to go when I first visited and I wished someone had given me a recommendation or two! I decided to check out most of the shops on Linking Road one by one. I quickly learned that not every store has shoes that you would find in the U.S. Bootmaker is one of the shops that I found more trendy shoes that you might find in the U.S. Yes, I recommend Bootmaker.

The necklace was a gift from my husband for my birthday in the previous year. I love it. He bought it in the U.S., but it was made in India. I received it when we were in the U.S. last summer and it was before our move to Mumbai. It’s interesting, isn’t it? I brought it back to the country where it was made.

Zara has been one of my favorite fashion brands. It’s my dream to visit Spain one day and shop at Zara, the world’s largest apparel retailer. Spain is a country of origin of another favorite brand of mine, Mango. Why did I not pick Spanish to learn when I was in school?

Monday Mode ☆ Mia Tui ☆ Fabulous Bags For All Reasons

Mia Tui Purse-20

My friend, Sarah, gave me a beautiful Mia Tui bag when we saw each other in Houston, Texas, this past summer. Mia Tui is a bag brand which was founded in 2010 by a mom of two, Charlotte, while she lived in Vietnam with her family. All the Mia Tui purses are created in Vietnam and “Tui” in the name means “bag” in Vietnamese.

Sarah and I met in Jakarta, Indonesia through our kids and we shared some fabulous time during the whole three years of our tour in Jakarta. The most memorable time with Sarah to me was the time we spent in the same group to practice and perform for the Fashion Dance, a charity event organized by the British Women’s Association in Jakarta, Indonesia.

After Sarah gave me this fabulous purse in Houston, I traveled with it all summer and I have been using it everyday in Mumbai, India since we came back from our summer holidays. For women with a busy life style whether at work or at home with or without kids, traveling, shopping, etc. there is nothing better than having a purse that helps you organize and get to everything quickly.

Mia Tui Purse-15

shirt: le petit society, pants: zara

The bag that I have is called Grace. I love Grace bag for its versatility. It can be a shoulder bag or a messenger bag with an extension belt. Messenger bags are so convenient as you can get to your stuff with one hand.

Mia Tui Purse4

When I flew from the U.S. to Japan and from Japan back to India, I used Grace bag as a messenger bag and it was very practical at the airports. I was able to get my children’s and my passports and boarding passes in and out of the bag very easily.

Mia Tui Purse-22

I love my big bags, too, but I always felt that I could never find what I needed when I needed it. I used to look for my cell phone, wallet and key all the time.

Mia Tui Purse-12

I have done this below before to look for my key and cell phone. My head was halfway in my purse.

Have you done this?

Ok, maybe it’s just me…

Mia Tui Purse

This key string has been a life saver for me who’s always looking for a house key. I can find my key even without looking. Another thing that many people might appreciate is that Mia Tui bags are waterproof inside and outside. I like subtle colors for my purses, but I do love and feel cheerful when I open my purse and see the pink lining inside. I find it really pretty.

Mia Tui Purse2

Mia Tui Purse3

Below is the inside of my purse. (Eeeek!) To keep all these small items organized in a purse without getting everything scrambled is a bit of a challenge.

Mia Tui Purse-024

VOILA!

Mia Tui Purse-28

I have three kids. My youngest son, who is two years old, keeps me on my toes. It helps me to have a well-organized purse so that I don’t get distracted by digging out something in my purse and I can keep an eye on him. He can move fast, you know!

Le Petit Society Interview

My Interview
Style My Kid / Chuzai Living

Le Petit Society is an Asian base children’s fashion brand founded by a Singaporean couple, Robyn and Dylan. I had two wonderful opportunities to collaborate with Le Petit Society. My first collaboration with Le Petit Society came in May 2013 in this post. My second collaboration post came out in the recent past in July 2014 and you can find it here.

Soon after my post on Le Petit Society’s adorable Safari collection came live on my blog, Le Petit Society kindly asked if I wanted to be interviewed for their blog’s new column called “Style My Kid”. I was very flattered that Le Petit Society was actually interested in hearing my opinions about kid fashion! My interview, Style My Kid / Chuzai Living, was recently published on le petit society blog. You can see some of my previous photos there as well.

I am inspired by Robyn and Dylan who founded and run the company. Their website is stylish and beautiful. The design of its clothes are adorable and quite comfortable. How do I know? Because I wear them. Please see my photos on the post about Safari Shirts post. More to come, too. Le Petit Society’s instagram stream is fun as well.

Some day I hope to meet le petit society team. It’s a funny world the blogging creates. What a wondrous world it is, too! I cannot imagine my world without my blog. I say this even though I have not blogged frequently in the recent past. Le Petit Society reminded me of its joy during the summer, though. Arigato!

Monday Mode ☆ Le Petit Society & Safari Shirts

Le Petit Society Safari Shirts04

I have been absent from the blog world for a while. Normally it’s hard for me to blog when I am on vacation visiting our families in the U.S. and Japan not to mention dealing with a jet-lag at the beginning. Even after getting adjusted, I feel tired by the end of the day taking care of my kids. At the same time I am trying to live in the moment and enjoy my family’s company as opposed to facing my computer working on my blogging hobby so that I can keep up with my posts. It’s hard enough to find the time for myself in the first place when I’m home since I do normal chores that many women in Japan and the U.S. do at home such as laundry, grocery shopping, and dishes. I recognize how fortunate I am to be able to afford a help at home in India.

Le Petit Society Safari Shirts07

I have done a collaboration with Le Petit Society before here a little over a year ago in Jakarta thanks to my blogger friend Erica of Expatria Baby. I love their outfits on my son! The shirts got too small on my son, but he can still wear the sorts, so he still wears them to this day!

I had another wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Le Petit Society this summer and received some beautiful items from the new Safari Collection at Le Petit Society. All three of my kids were really happy in their brand new outfits and it made me happy to see them in such cute outfits. This time I even received a few items for myself! One of them which I wore for this post is a cool rhino shirt that matches with my son’s! Thank you, Le Petit Society!!!

Monday Mode ☆ Accessorize Jewelry in Mumbai

Accessorize statement necklace w gold2

All the photos on this post were taken with my iPod Touch 4.

I recently learned about Accessorize. I hadn’t even known that there was or were Accessorize shops in Japan as well until my friend mentioned it! Where was I? I love Accessorize now. It has so many beautiful and pretty design jewelry that I would love to wear.

I have wanted to have statement necklaces for a while. Something that accessorizes plain outfits. I live in a hot climate and layering is not an option for me even with a scarf any more. Thus, jewelry plays an important role to express individuality in fashion.

I went to Accessorize and looked at their prices and simply could not justify to buy their jewelry. Many women of my age probably spend more on jewelry, so for them they are not at all expensive. Since manage to find the same quality jewelry for less in the U.S., I had a difficult time convincing myself. Another thing is that usually imported goods are taxed and thus more expensive than in the original country in India. It’s the same in Japan, too. So, one day I went online and checked the prices in the country of its origin, England. To my surprise, I learned that the prices at Accessorize in India were not much different or about the same in England.

Then Accessorize has had Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion recently. I went to one Accessorize shop for 4 different times. FOUR TIMES! Finally at the 4th time, I told myself “come on. I’ve been here 4 times. I still think about them all the time and they are having a promotion. Just get them!” Getting 3 jewelry was cheaper than buying 3 new outfits and these necklaces could give fresh looks to my old outfits I’ve worn many times.

I have been eyeing on these three items.

Guess what?

They are mine now.

I felt guilty to buy something I ‘wanted’ and didn’t ‘need’. They, however, made me happy.

Sometimes you need a little reward or treat for yourself to stay upbeat and happy.

I do for sure.

Monday Mode ☆ AND India Tie-Dye Dress & My Complex

AND tie-dye dress-2

AND tie-dye dress-5

I don’t often wear a short length dress. Women in India dress very conservatively. Even in Mumbai, the most cosmopolitan city in India, you don’t often see women in a dress that is shorter than knee length, let alone shorts. It’s not the only reason why I don’t wear a short dress. I don’t think I look good in it. My short muscular legs have always been my complex. Even when I lose weight, I always lose weight above my waist, but not on my legs.

Growing up in Japan, I was one of the tallest kids in the entire class. I was taller than the tallest boy in the class until I went to the middle school. My height used to make me feel very self-conscious. In Japan, up to the 6th grade in an elementary school, children pay a half of an adult fair to use public transportation. I was in the 6th grade when the bus driver stopped me for paying children’s fair and I had to explain that I was still in an elementary school. I looked too tall for it. Now I wish I grew taller. Funny how your perspective can change in time.

I look at younger girls in 20’s and think how great they look. They look great with any outfit in my opinion. I’m 38, turning 39 soon. As I approach 40, I want to live a life appreciating what I have in every moment and not take it granted. I saw this tie-dye looking AND by Anita Dongre dress and liked it very much. I want to overcome my complex. At some point, I won’t wear short dresses. I don’t want to regret in the future that I didn’t wear what I liked because of my complex.

Life is too short to not enjoy it.

Monday Mode ☆ AND Gray Dress

AND gray dress

I walked into AND India store one day not realizing that was the store my friend recommended and I totally fell in love with the brand!

I took photos of the dress and posted on my instagram because I wasn’t sure. I knew I liked it, but it was more than I normally spend on a dress. It wasn’t expensive. I’m frugal. Then I received responses, which made it easier for me to make a decision. Thank you!

AND India

I love this AND gray dress especially because of the design on the back which is not commonly seen. I also like the high waist which allows my body to look better proportioned and balanced. It is a long dress, so it suits well in India.

I have one more dress I bought from AND. That is for another day!
